Property taxes for all homeowners.

Reminder! Delaware is reassessing the property taxes for all homeowners. See the attached link for more information:

I don't like paying taxes. Mainly because I have very little control of where the money goes. While I can't disagree that our tax assessments were out of date. I really struggle to see a need to increase the tax burden on Delaware homeowners. Here are my reasons:

1. We already have the highest closing costs in the nation. You will pay a tax on the sale of your home when you buy or sell. That fee is now 4% total or 2% for the seller and 2% for the buyer. Up from 3% total a few years ago.

2. Low property taxes are one reason Delaware is so attractive to homeowners. It helps buyers afford more home and seniors keep their homes when they retire and only have property taxes and insurance to worry about.

3. More tax money for schools, roads, etc doesn't always mean better schools, roads, etc. It's really important that any increases are only done out of necessity.

What are your thoughts? Should we be paying more in property taxes? Would that increase our daily lives via better schools, roads, public buildings/services?
